Welcome to the website of Sedona author Peter Bernhardt
Welcome Reader! I'm glad you decided to check out my website and learn about the thrillers I am writing for you.
Having grown up in Stuttgart, Germany, I spent the first twenty-three years of my life writing in German. That changed when I emigrated to the United States. After learning a new language in college and law school and after a civil litigation career with the U.S. Department of Justice, I finally found the time to harness the creative juices necessary for writing fiction. I've now completed three works: The Stasi File, a spy thriller that takes place during the collapse of the East German police state after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the sequel Kiss of the Shaman's Daughter, a tense mystery/thriller that interweaves the activities of a vicious gang of smugglers in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with the story of a lost treasure and a Native American family's struggles during The Pueblo Indian Revolt of 1680, and Red Romeo.
These books indulge my passion for opera. The first two feature Sylvia Mazzoni, a talented young diva with a checkered past and her erstwhile lover, Rolf Keller, a German-American lawyer with a penchant for getting into trouble. The path of Sylvia's career, as she sings increasingly challenging soprano roles in Berlin, Stuttgart, and Santa Fe provides a unique background to the exciting twists and turns typically found in adventure stories.
I love writing. These novels are developing a side of my personality I never knew, and I am having so much fun! Instead of simply writing one page after another, I find myself hanging onto my seat as the plots and characters take off in intriguing and unexpected directions.
The summer of 1977 finds divided Germany locked in a fierce espionage battle in my third novel, Red Romeo. West Germany's premier spy hunter, ambitious Sabine Maier, faces off against ruthless Stasi General, Werner Heinrich. Sabine has filled half a prison with her prodigious arrests of communist spies. Heinrich is the mastermind behind a small army of spy gigolos who prey on lonely women working in the West German government's most secret divisions. Caught in the middle is ladies' man Stefan Malik, a reluctant Romeo, forced to do the general's bidding or rot in a Stasi prison.
The German language editions of The Stasi File and Red Romeo are enjoying brisk sales through the German ebook retailers and on the German Amazon site.
So, again, welcome. I wish for you as much enjoyment reading these books as I experienced creating them.
